Worker Bee and other things

As we speak sweet Lofton is working with Sally and Lee to put crown moulding in the bedrooms and hallway. He hung crown in the living room and dining room in January (and it looks great!) AND at that time he asked me if I wanted crown in the bedrooms. I emphatically said no. But a few weeks ago I changed my mind SO here he is, spending his Saturday working.

He is the hardest worker EVER. Between work and the paper route he is a busy bee, but in the past few weeks he has installed a new floating dock at the lake, built platform stairs for my mom over the fourth of July weekend, and now is installing the crown. And as mom pointed out over the fourth, we didn't even know he was so handy when I married him. We really got a deal!

I too, been busy today, but not with manual labor. I went to the grocery store, Target (twice), and I have washed five loads of laundry. We had a lot of dirty clothes from being out of town two weekends in a row. I'm now exhausted. I thought maybe my breathlessness was a sign of being out of shape pre-pregnancy, but NO! American Baby magazine assures me that my lungs are working fifty percent harder to support Reese, and they are also being squished as he grows.

Speaking of Reese, he has taken up permanent residence under my ribcage. I know from the 4D ultrasound that he has his feet wedged comfortably under the right side of my ribs. My stomach is actually lopsided. He rarely ventures far from my right side so sometimes his little bottom pokes out like a tumor. It looks very alien-ish. I'm sure as he grows, the problem will only be compounded.

My feet have also started puffing. My whole life I have complained about having super-skinny ankles like my dad. I've hated them for at least fifteen years. No longer, my friends. I would give anything to see my bony ankles again. I now have basically no ankle bones and I am fairly certain they are gone for the next three months. Yet another one of those pregnancy perks I LOVE!

I had AMSTI training this week at Opelika Middle School. A whole week of science training feels like a waste of time considering I spend over half my day teaching reading, BUT no one asked me. Anyway, on Wednesday, our sweet instructor told us to wear comfortable clothes on Thursday and Friday because we would be hiking. Yes, that says hiking. It's not a mistype! So on Wednesday night as Lofton rubbed my swollen feet, I casually mentioned that I was going to be expected to hike on Thursday and Friday. This is our conversation:

"Lofton, they want me to HIKE tomorrow at school! And I'm sorry but seven-months-pregnant Elizabeth does NOT hike."

"Baby, non-pregnant Elizabeth didn't hike, obviously pregnant Elizabeth doesn't hike."

"What are you saying? That I'm lazy? Fat?"

With that, we went to bed.

I have to work next week also. Summer is basically over because teachers return to school July 31st. Where has the time gone. Baby Reese will be here before we know it!
