The finish line is just a little too far out of reach for us. Reese is sick. So while we were hopeful we could make it until February 4th {next Thursday} without illness, our hopes have been dashed.
He was up on and off all last night, not to mention he hasn’t napped well at school all week. We have a yucky nose, watery eyes, and the tell-tale sign:: ear batting. I could not feel sorrier for him.
I actually am having some ear trouble of my own. I’ve been battling sinus issues since the beginning of 2010. I finally went and got some meds the week of Reese’s christening, but I went to urgent care and {no offense to urgent care} they didn’t quite fix me up.
Yesterday I visited a new doctor, one that we will probably be using from now on. He was very nice and we discussed my sinuses in depth. I told him for three weeks I have felt like I’m sitting on the bottom of the deep-end in a pool. The left side of my face is puffy; so puffy that my left eye has been twitching.
He fixed me right up. Four prescriptions later, I should be well on my way to recovery by this time next week. I could also be sprouting Incredible Hulk muscles because I’m on a 12 day steroid pack. If my skin develops a green tint, you’ll know why. Apparently I’m lucky my left ear drum has not ruptured. Oops. One day I’m going to heed my mother's advice and take better care of myself. One day.
A little ear anatomy lesson for you—
Evidently you inherit your sinus patterns from whichever parent your bone structure favors. Mine favors my dad, and Reese’s favors mine. Which is why we all have terrible allergies and horrible ears- - - thanks Daddy. I also learned that your Eustachian tubes start out parallel to the ground, and as you grow they slant more towards a 45* angle. Babies have very round heads and it takes a few years for their tubes to slant, hence why so many toddlers have ear infections and tubes. Unless you have a large, round Buckley head. Then your tubes stay parallel forever.

Do you feel smarter?
I hope you have a restful and ear pain free weekend. Reese and I will be hibernating in Casa Beasley while Lofton works at the lake.
