weekend recap

Oh happy day!  This weather is delightful.  We've spent mucho time outdoors soaking up this Springy happiness.

Lots of swinging... ignore my puffy face, please.  I'm allergy medicine free for a week.  Yuck.

hide and seek-- love those fat fingers
talked about life with our G
and generally caused a lot of mischief and trouble...
I say it frequently, but it's a darn good thing this kid is so cute.

Pray my head doesn't explode from lack of allegra & nose spray before my first round of shots Thursday.  I'm in misery.

a few funnies

TGIF, friends!  I'm spent.  I can say with complete certainty that both my students and I are more than ready for Spring Break.  Two more weeks.... say it with me.... two more....

A few Friday tidbits--

  • I'm in charge of our school's relay for life team.  Both Lofton and I have been touched personally by cancer, as have many people at our school.  In fact, we have both a survivor of breast cancer and a breast cancer fighter employed at Northside.  We've raised a little over 400 dollars which is one-quarter of our goal.  If you feel compelled to donate shoot me a message.
  • When I picked little man up today he was wearing the green shirt I sent him to school in but missing his overalls.  In their place were a pair of orange, skin-tight, ankle-cuffed, pumpkin printed pants.  It was hot.  I'm hoping and praying that daycare lets us keep them.  Reese ran over to Lofton and I and shouted "Look Mama Daddy-O punkin pants!"
  • Lastly, the hubs injured the muscles around his collarbone this week.  He wasn't really sure what caused the injury, but as the week progressed he became more and more whiny about it.  Blah, blah you know how men are.... FINALLY after my umpteenth suggestion that he see a doctor he relented this afternoon.  Of course he made this decision at lunch time... on a Friday afternoon... but being the stellar spouse I am I used my lunch time {all twenty minutes of it} to call various doctors and beg for an appointment.  Long story short-- he saw an orthopedist {who was highly recommended} and basically the guy told him that "He has an injury that is really common in middle age men who try to work out." Hahahahahahahah....
Happy weekend!

bad news bear

Stinker.  With this beautiful weather comes one big issue: our allergies.  I'm headed to the doctor Thursday to discuss getting shots.  It's not really a prospect I'm thrilled about BUT considering I'm allergic to grass, pine trees, and pecan trees shots are about my only hope for relief.

And now to Doodle.  It seems my little man has developed my same allergy issues.  He has what we are now calling a "chronic cough" which seems to increasing in severity with the sunshine and warm weather. We are temporarily increasing his Nasonex to see if that helps, but long-term looking at doing either an inhaler or breathing treatments.  He does not have asthma-- the doctor repeated that at least ten times yesterday-- but he does have this cough which seems to be interfering with his sleep and his outside play time.

Boo on genetics.

doesn't get any better

What a perfect weekend-- at least from a weather standpoint.  Was it gorgeous where you are?

For a toddler that prefers playing outside to just about any other activity this weather has been a dream come true.  Lofton was on duty yesterday and they played outside ALL DAY LONG.  Reese literally came in for lunch and a nap then was right back outside til dusk. And today his Mamie and Paw Paw drove over from the lake for some more outside time.  There was swinging, long walks, tricycle rides, and flower picking galore-- once again he was living the toddler dream.

I wish I had a picture, but alas, I don't.  How about this one instead:

The cutest little boy in the world enjoying a Valentine's treat.  I love him so much my heart could just burst!

bucket list

Do you have a bucket list?  You know, a running record of all the things you want to do in your life?  Hmm... me neither.  Cause really, if we're being honest, there would only be one thing on it: to see my most favorite band in concert.  I have no desire to sail the seven seas, climb mt. everest, or travel to Asia.  No thanks.  I'm pretty happy right here with my little family, in my little town.

Rewind to Saturday night-- after a few glasses of wine, a delicious romantic dinner {steak for the hubs and I, peanut butter for the toddler}, and some handy manny, I found myself perusing the Internet.  I was actually checking to see if Brad Paisley concert tickets were still available in Columbus because Lofton and I had entertained going, BUT alas I got distracted.  One thing led to another and I somehow stumbled upon my favorite band's website, saw they were on tour, and then realized tickets had JUST gone on sale for their Atlanta show.

It was fate.

And so, my friends, I am happy to report that this girl and her smokin-hot husband will be attending this concert come May:

BON JOVI.

I die.

battered

It’s been a painful week.
Monday, I picked Reese up from school bruised and scratched.  He, as usual, was loving on one of the ladies in his class and she, as usual, got a little “back off you’re all up in my space” and bit him.  Oh and she clawed his face.  He was pretty dejected when I picked him up, as was I.  I mean really?  Can’t he just NOT be injured at school anymore.  A huge bruised bite mark on his arm and pretty significant scratches on his face were enough to make me cry.
Then yesterday Janet picked him up and found a note that said, “Reese bit one of his friends today.  He had to sit in time out.”  The note even had a frowny face. While I’m not exactly jumping for joy that Reese got his first “bad” note, I’m a little amused that he finally decided not to take the abuse from the girls in his class anymore.  Lofton and I rewarded him with a prize, but my guilt started to get to me so at prayer time we talked about how biting was not sweet and God wants us to love our friends.  Then we prayed for his friends in his class.
As if all of that toddler-drama wasn’t traumatic enough, I was summoned out of class this morning by these dreaded words:  Mrs. Beasley you have a phone call on line one.
Shoot.
It was daycare.  And Reese had fallen out of chair at the breakfast table.  I believe he was in the process of stealing someone else’s food.
Of course he was
One busted lip plus a semi-detached thingy that connects your top lip to your gums and you have my busted toddler.  In my frantic drive across town I called the dentist {who doesn’t work on Friday}, the pediatrician {not on call today} and the pediatric dentist {also not at work on a Friday}.  I then called my dentist again, got the emergency number, and talked to a sweet hygienist who promptly met us at the office.
The verdict?  Reese will survive.
His lip/gum attacher will be forever unattached, but evidently that isn’t too big of a deal.  None of his teeth were loose, his lip isn’t bad enough to need stitches, and sweet boy was primarily upset because he didn’t get to eat breakfast.  A quick trip to Burger King solved his woes.  As did the arrival of super-daddy-o who took over duties for the day.  Gotta love a daddy who comes running when he hears the familiar, albeit dreaded, phrase, “Don’t panic but Reese had an accident at school.”
And now we are ready for a restful weekend.

augusta

In a perfect world everyone would have a friend like Cassie, and every friend like Cassie would have a husband like Hugh.  They are the perfect couple to spend a weekend with; fun, relaxed, and hospitable. Our weekend was, in one word, delightful.  Good food, lots of laughs, a few drinks, and some much needed chatting.  I could sit on the couch with Cassie and read cookbooks while drinking wine for hours.  Literally.
Reese never wanted to leave.  In fact, he begged last night to go back.  Evidently he loves Hugh much more than either of his parents.  Sassy tot.  It could also be that Cassie and Hugh gave him two prizes:  a Handy Manny doll {complete with tools and Spanish phrases} and a puppy from build-a-bear.  Reese appropriately named his new friend, Fletcher-- after the original.
Thanks friends for being the consummate hosts.  I love you dearly.  Well, maybe not Hugh as much since he picked Lofton over me, but Cassie, I love you mucho.

slacker

I hate to be a whiner, but between life, work, school, and work {yep, work is listed twice} I'm spent.  My creative juices have been lacking, and I apologize.  You deserve better.

This weekend promises to be full of fun, debauchery, laughing and eating.  The Beasley family is headed to Augusta to see the Nadeau's.  It's hard to pinpoint whom is more excited, me or Reese.  Everyday he says "Mama, it go Aunt Cassie day?"

I find spending time with old friends to be great medicine for the soul.

I also find my toddler to be great medicine.  A friend received some very sad and difficult news this week.  It's weighing on my heart and mind heavily.  As I was sharing my sadness with Lofton, sweet boy climbed in my lap and said, "Don't cry Mama, it okay."  Really?

He's just the best thing...
